selale university vacancy

The main campus, named in honor of General Tadesse Birru (1920-1975), a resilient Oromo figure born in Salale, gained renown for his groundbreaking National Literacy Campaign. General Tadesse played a pivotal role in fostering Oromo identity and nationhood through his lectures, leaving an indelible mark on an entire generation. Notably, he contributed to the reaffirmation of Oromo culture, language, and identity. In addition to his domestic influence, General Tadesse had a global impact by training Nelson Mandela and actively participating in anti-apartheid movements. Throughout Haile Selassie’s regime, he held various positions such as the commander of the Ethiopian Special Forces, Deputy Commissioner of the National Police Force, and Commander of the Territorial Army. Unfortunately, General Tadesse Birru faced execution by the Derg regime in 1975.
