JAY JAY TEXTILES PLC, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is part of the esteemed 50-year-old JAY JAY group, which has factories in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia. Our first Ethiopian factory was established in 2014, specializing in the production of infant and baby wear clothing primarily for export to the USA. Located in Addis Ababa’s BOLE LEMI INDUSTRIAL PARK, our seven large factories engage in contract manufacturing for our Sri Lankan group company, Addis Ventures Private Limited, our major shareholders.
Our key US customers include GERBER CHILDRENSWEAR, GARAN, CARTER’S, and THE CHILDREN’S PLACE. In the last financial year, our Ethiopian operations exported over USD 80 million, contributing to our group’s combined exports of over USD 350 million from all four countries. As one of the largest garment employers in Ethiopia, we are responsible for nearly 25% of the country’s garment exports, directly employing approximately 8,800 people, with nearly 90% being women.
The livelihood of Ethiopian garment factory workers heavily depends on these factories. The withdrawal of Ethiopia’s AGOA facility has threatened the survival of many factories, leading to closures and impacting workers, particularly women from remote villages.
