Background:
The International Institute for Primary Health Care – Ethiopia (IPHC-E) aspires to become a Center of Excellence in Primary Health Care (PHC) and serve as a knowledge hub and learning platform at regional and global levels. The institute was established due to increasing demand from various African countries seeking insights from Ethiopia’s Health Extension Program experiences. The institute is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Ethiopia’s PHC system, achieving health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and serving as a global resource for PHC. This involves capacity building through training and knowledge sharing, conducting health systems implementation research, and contributing to global advocacy for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through PHC.

About the Program:
The internship program at IPHC-E aims to attract talented and highly motivated young individuals to contribute their innovative ideas, perspectives, and research skills in strategic theme areas. This program offers interns an opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a professional setting, establish valuable networking connections, and gain practical work experience alongside nationally and internationally recognized professionals in primary health care and public health. Interns will contribute to the institute’s efforts in building resilient primary health care and achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030. IPHC-E–Ethiopia is offering positions for qualified interns for a period of 6 months, starting on February 5, 2024.

Role and Responsibility:
The following list is not exhaustive, and additional duties may be assigned as needed:
Assist in organizing and preparing for both the international conference on primary health care and the upcoming National Conference on Primary Health Care. Contribute to the coordination of workshops, training sessions, and other events organized by the institute. Create and compile a range of documents, including articles, factsheets, reports, concept notes, and more.
Assist with public relations and social media
Draft responses to inquiries
Assist the leads of the 4 strategic thematic areas, as needed
Supervision Received:
Interns will work under the supervision of the Executive Director, Director of Programs, and the leads of strategic thematic areas, following assigned tasks. One intern will serve as the ‘Lead Intern’ and assist with interns’ training and task management.

Program Eligibility Criteria:
There are two eligible groups for this program:
Recent graduates in health science from either public institutions or accredited private establishments who are presently unemployed and completed their studies within the past six months.
Individuals pursuing postgraduate studies in Public Health, whether enrolled in public or accredited private institutions, without current employment and possessing less than six months of work experience at the point of application.
